From the President…

Dear SMPS Community,

It is with a tremendous amount of excitement that I welcome you all to the 2014-2015 SMPS program year.  It is such an honor to serve as your president for this year.

I vividly remember the first time I attended an SMPS event.  At the time it seemed like any ordinary luncheon. What I didn't realize was how much of an impact this organization would have on my life.  I was only two or three months in to my career and was still learning what our industry was really all about.  It has been through SMPS that I have not only found confidence in my professional life but have absolutely fallen in love with the architecture, engineering and construction industries.  My hope is that is you are able to also take advantage of all SMPS has to offer to help benefit your career.

We are coming out of a spectacular program year.  The leadership from the past few years have been building a solid foundation for our chapter.  We have seen membership growth, sponsorhip growth, and a significant increase in program attendance.  What that tells me is that our organization has been providing value to you. That is the sole purpose of our chapter - to serve you.  Whether that is through educational lunch programs, workshops, project tours or networking opportunities, the end goal is always the same:  to advocate for, educate and connect professionals in the A/E/C industry.

My promise to you is that we will continue to build the momentum of our chapter and work diligently to continue to advocate for, educate and connect marketers and business developers in our community.  Our organization is unique in the fact that we are here solely to serve the architecture, engineering and construction industries.  As such, you can expect to see some exciting and highly educational programming this year.  We will continue to bring in national speakers to discuss industry and economic trends, focus on delivering high-quality sessions and client panels and tours to educate members on what is happening in and around Omaha.  We also have the honor of hosting this year's regional conference.  We will be hosting the St. Louis, Kansas City, Wichita and Ozarks chapters in a two-day conference packed full of educational programs and thrilling keynote speakers.

Our theme for this year is "what would you attempt if you knew you would not fail".  I've always been a firm believer that the only way to move forward is to take risks.  With calculated risk comes the opportunity for great reward.  This year we will strive to "go beyond".

I would be remiss in not acknowledging our incredible Board of Directors.  A president can only be successful if there is a strong and capable board behind her.  I have no doubt that this chapter will see great things, and that is due in large part to the efforts of this talented and incredible group of individuals.

Throughout the year, should you ever have any questions, comments, suggestions or criticisms, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the board.  As we are here to serve you, we are quite eager to hear your feedback.

Here's to an incredible year!

Quinn Texmo, CPSM
