CPSM Certification

Your marketing skills are vital to the lifeline of your firm. Every day you further your company's growth by identifying new opportunities, developing relationships and bringing your company's name in front of prospective clients. That's your job as a professional services marketer and SMPS offers a credential that recognizes your achieved marketing expertise, the Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM).

"CPSM Certification-its not just initials behind your name-it's a great deal of knowledge acquired by you and your firm. It's an accomplishment to be proud of," stated Shelley Wherley, CPSM, R.L. Fauss Builders, Inc. "The knowledge helps build your career and the certification opens up additional idea-sharing opportunities with other marketing professionals."

The CPSM credential is a voluntary certification designed to elevate the professional standards in marketing and influence the future of this vital field. The designation serves as a mark of distinction for professional services marketers and business developers, raising their standing with employers, peers and the public.

When you decide you are ready to take the CPSM examination, you are taking your first step toward joining a distinguished group of professionals who have made a commitment to professional excellence, career advancement and an ongoing pursuit of knowledge.

The 150-question, multiple-choice certification exam is offered in two formats, a traditional paper exam or an online exam. Candidates must achieve a 75% score or higher to pass the CPSM examination. The exam is based on a practice analysis commissioned by SMPS. Candidates are tested on their knowledge of the following six domains of practice:

  • Marketing Research
  • Marketing Plan
  • Client and Business Development
  • SOQs/Proposals
  • Promotional Activity
  • Information, Resource and Organizational Management

All of this knowledge will help you take you and your organization to the next level.

"I learned a great deal from the publications I read while preparing for the test. It amazes me how much I use the study materials as a day-to-day reference. Attending the CPSM seminars at the National Conference and networking with fellow CPSMs has brought me further along my learning path as well," stated Shelley.

If you are interested in pursuing your CPSM certification a study group is forming for Fall 2011. More information will be coming soon.
